I co-founded ʻĀkolea Visual to take on a project for the Kaʻū Coffee Growers Cooperative. My partner eventually moved on. The studio stayed, and it's where I do my best work now — identity, web, print, and whatever else a project actually needs.

Tetrachrome was a partnership between  Andrew Hara, Joey Trisolini and myself — a collaborative studio built for larger projects. We brought strategy, design, photography, and video together under one roof, with shared values around story, place, and trust.

I joined WSM without knowing WordPress and quickly learned the ropes. Over time I designed and built dozens of sites, took on a leadership role, and helped refine internal workflows. Eventually, I stepped back into hands-on work where I felt most grounded.

At HPPA, I went in-house and went deep — rebuilding their site, modernizing systems, and designing everything from hoodies to an award-winning impact report. I worked alongside great people and learned how to translate culture and place into lasting visual work.

Co-founded with Issac Fraser and Shawn Pila. We provided graphic design, video, photo, web all in one house. Working with that crew sharpened everything. Fast projects, high expectations, no safety net.

Before the studios and partnerships, I was freelancing under the name Alan Ohara Designs. It was all self-taught, all scrappy — Joomla sites, hacked themes, and a lot of figuring it out as I went. Those years were where I found my footing.
